Home insurance provides a backup plan in case a catastrophe strikes in the neighborhood. Whether it's a fire, high winds, or a burglary, it's covered by a suitable homeowners insurance policy in Colorado. Home insurance will pay for repairs to the home and replacement of belongings, pay for someone else's injuries on the property when it's the homeowner's fault, and may pay for temporary living expenses if the home is so badly damaged that it's uninhabitable.

Colorado drivers pay slightly less than most other drivers around the nation. But every region and car owner has different car insurance requirements, so keep this in mind when comparing these averages. On average, Americans pay $1,474 per year for their auto insurance. In Colorado, car owners pay on average of  about $1,558 per year. The best rate can be found by comparing various quotes from numerous car insurance companies.

Small businesses in Colorado have made a total of $158.4 billion, but accidents can happen. Without insurance, business claims have to be paid out of pocket. That means they have to be paid out of a business’s revenue and can cause financial damage to the company. In the next ten years, 40% of small businesses are likely to experience a property or general liability claim.

Colorado requires all employers who have one or more full-time or part-time employees to purchase a workers' comp insurance policy. These policies pay benefits to employees who are hurt on the job, or suffer work-related illnesses or long-term disability. It covers both medical bills and lost wages while they are out of work. Like all workman's compensation policies, it is a no-fault system, which means that regardless of who is at fault, injured workers are covered and employers are protected from costly employee lawsuits.

A basic restaurant insurance policy typically includes the following: general liability, property insurance, worker's compensation, business income, food spoilage, and communicable disease. Because no two Colorado restaurants are exactly the same, what one owner needs for their restaurant will never be the same as any other owner. So many restaurants will need to consider additional coverage for their unique needs.

Because there is a wide range of commercial vehicle types, the cost to cover business-owned vehicles can vary significantly from one company to the next. Rates are calculated according to a number of factors including: the number and types of vehicles to be insured,  the amounts of desired coverage, what they will be transporting, the driving records of all drivers, and claims history. Obviously, it will cost far more to insure a fleet of semi-trucks used to transport flammable materials than a fleet of delivery cars. Insurance companies offer a variety of customized commercial vehicle insurance policies to meet the unique needs of each company.

An older inn near the coast might pay around $5,000/year. But a fancy high-rise hotel just a few miles away might pay as much as $1,000,000/year. To make things even more interesting, if these same two hotels were located just 10 miles further inland, their premiums might drop by half. In another state altogether, further away from the coast, the small one might pay $1,200/year, while the big one might pay $150,000/year.

Umbrella insurance protects policyholders with a layer of extra liability insurance. These policies typically offer at least $1 million in additional coverage above what is provided by home, auto, or business insurance. Umbrella policies kick in where other policies leave off, covering liability costs that exceed their coverage limits. It might seem that only a wealthy person would need that much insurance coverage, but if someone has assets like a home, investments, or savings, they risk losing them all if a judgment against them is much higher than what their standard insurance policies will cover.

Unlike car insurance, renters insurance is not required by law. In many cases, however, landlords will require their tenants to have this insurance as one of the terms of their lease. Whether or not the landlord requires it, having this coverage is a good idea. Renters insurance is very affordable and is a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes from knowing that a tenant's property and finances are protected.

Life insurance is all about preparing for the unexpected. It is important for everyone to think about how their dependents would fare if they  were to meet an untimely demise. If they are married, they may want enough coverage so their spouse can afford to keep the family home. If they are a parent, they are likely to want to ensure that their children are well cared for and that they have many of the opportunities they might otherwise need to forgo due to lack of funds.
